I went out for lunch on friday last, in a pub, had jacket potato and tuna mayonnaise, 4 hours later 'throwing up' for England ( it sounds like a new olympic event - maybe notScared ) I have been so ill for the last 60 hours. Have only eaten dry toast every 12 hours and feeling extremely weak. I haven't been able to take any tablets but not too worried about mxt as only missed one and should be ok for the next one. Thyroxine is more of a worry as missing one day makes a huge difference to energy levels which are zilch anyway, with having no food. Have taken it today and had 'the runs' (another olympic discipline?Smile ) Does anyone have any suggestions of what to eat to avoid making things worse. I can't go any longer without eating something. I am drinking lots of water and not being sick any more so I now think it is the lack of food that is making me feel rough.

Hello Sheila

Poor you how horrid for you. Being so poorly makes you so weak and lifeless. Hope you pick up and start
eating soon. When I had this leading up to Christmas week , when I started to eat again I started with
piece of toast. Then the next meal I had scrambled egg. Good luck

Hi Sheila

Sorry you've been feeling so poorly. When I was in hospital, years ago, the recommendation was dry toast, then toast with something light on it, scrambled eggs, then chicken and mashed potatoes.

I never did understand why chicken but I guess it is much more easily digestible - and eggs and toast get a bit boring!

Hope you feel better soon.

love Anne xx

Hi Sheila,

Sorry to hear you have been so poorly, I remember having food poisoning when I was 18, like you I was very poorly think I lost 1/2 a stone in a week. Couldn't really afford to back then Smile

Like the others have said anything you fancy as long as it is very LIGHT to begin with. Chicken soup is a favorite with me when I am poorly. Hope you feel better soon.

Sending lots of hugs

Lorna xx Smile

Hi Sheila,

Sorry to hear you have been so poorly but glad you can now drink at least.
I always find yogurts good for tummy problems, especially Activia with the probiotics. Custard, mashed potato, scrambled egg, toast, anything light for the next few days.
Hope you start feeling a lot better soon.
Hmmm.....you are right, "the runs" could be a good Olympic sport. Doesn't take much to set me offScared

Hi Sheila

Sorry to hear that you have been so poorly, food poisoning is not a nice thing at all and hope by now you are feeling a little bit better.

Like the others have said something light, I always opt for toast and then if things look like they are stabling move onto other foods.

Take care, Julia xx

Thanks for your replies girls. I am not being sick anymore and I think I feel bad now because I am not eating properly. I am sick of toast now and my stomach feels rock hard. Doreen, I was wondering about yogurt but discounted it because it is dairy but we have some Activia yogurts in the fridge so will try one later. The trouble now is that I am scared of eating anything in case it sets me off again. Be careful what you wish for girls. I wanted to lose a few pounds before the wedding but this isn't the way I planned it.ThumbDown (I could mention Eleanor's cake at this pointRollEyes - of course I mean it might just be the thing I need to help me to get back to normalBlink. Lorna, good to see you back on the forum.

Hi Sheila,

I know the feeling of being scared to eat, I was like that after being in hospital last August. I was so frightened of upsetting things again, so I know just how you feel. Just take it easy and stick to simple things. I lived on yogurts and scrambled egg for weeks! Like you say, not a way you would recommend to lose weight!
I think it might be better if you stayed away from Eleanor's cake for a while RollEyes

Hi Sheila,
Oh yuk, you poor thing. Soups are really gentle, easily digested, filling and slow release energy. Hope you're feeling better soon

Hi Sheila, sorry you are ill. I usually eat boiled eggs and toast soldiers when i've been ill with a bad stomach. I also like flavoured water as plain water always seems to taste funny when i'm ill.

Get well soon.

Hi Sheila

Sorry to hear you've been so ill but it's good to know you are feeling a lot better. Now you're able to eat you may also wish to try a little thimble of port and brandy - great for upset tums.

Best wishes...

Smile

Thanks Dorothy, Ellie and Lyn. Still not 100% yet. Taking longer than I thought. I still can't eat properly, everything tastes weird but hey ho! every cloud eh! Going to look like a shrunken mop at this rate (no comments from the Glossop contingentSmile )
